Omni Network: What the Next Generation of Modular Blockchains Looks Like

Read this article in 5 Minutes
Omni incorporates a number of novel technologies in its design, thus achieving unique advantages in three aspects: safety, efficiency and functionality.

Omni has a bold vision - it sets a new precedent in Crypto design by fusing multiple novel and innovative technologies into a unified platform. This article will take you through a new perspective on how Omni combines key technologies to achieve its unique advantages in safety, efficiency and functionality.

Security - Ethereum Restaking

The Omni network is made up of validators who Stake ETH and attest to Rollup state updates to facilitate global interoperability. These ETH-based validators provide the security underpinning the network.

The Omni Network advances the field in this dimension, setting a new standard for cross-modular blockchain security. By utilizing a unique re-staking mechanism, Omni is the first blockchain that can be fully customizable and still derive security from Ethereum.

Over time, we will open source this module for the community and plan to support a full ecosystem, including other districts built on this technology Blockchain to create a secure chain with a dedicated purpose.

Efficiency - Tendermint consensus

By utilizing Tendermint PoS consensus, our Validators can achieve Rollup state consistency an order of magnitude faster than Layer 1 Ethereum. Therefore, Omni can serve as a fast settlement layer for Rollup.

Previously, it was difficult to take advantage of Tendermint's speed without sacrificing security. However, when combined with $ETH Restaking, it is possible to achieve the speed offered by Tendermint while maintaining the strong security guarantees users demand. This is very powerful, and we'll expand on it later, because it has unique properties that can greatly improve the user experience of using Rollup.

Functionality - Full EVM Compatibility

Furthermore, Omni is a Programmable, stateful platform so developers can leverage its fast settlement and secure interoperability to build native cross-rollup applications.

Omni's execution layer is EVM-compatible, implemented by Ethermint (an EVM module) on Cosmos, so developers can use their familiar Solidity tools for development. The execution layer includes built-in functionality to access status, messaging, and applications from integrated Rollups, creating an experience that seamlessly accesses users and liquidity.

The Omni Rollup application will become the new standard for smart contract development. Designing applications in a global fashion provides broader addressable users and capital markets, establishing a new class of cross-rollup applications that will have fundamental economic advantages over their siled competitors.

Summary

We are excited to be the first team to build a modular blockchain , building functionality that was not possible before while gaining security from Ethereum. This is a new design space that promises to usher in a new era of modular blockchains. As a leader in this trend, we will open-source our modules so that other teams can adopt and experiment with these technologies to build their own modular blockchains.
