BlockBeats news, October 28: Binance founder CZ stated that four data breaches were reported today. Coinbase's vendor Amplitude exposed contact data of some users (funds unaffected); South Korean trading platform Bithumb experienced a user data breach. In traditional finance, two South Korean securities firms also leaked data: Mirae Asset and Daishin Securities.
You cannot prevent breaches from happening, but you can protect yourself. Leaked trading platform data (names, emails, phone numbers, addresses, ID documents, transaction records) is mostly used for phishing, SIM swapping, and social engineering attacks. Users should reduce the information they share and use a separate email alias for each trading platform, so that after a breach it cannot be linked to your other accounts and you can identify which service leaked the data.
