BlockBeats news, October 22: The Starknet Foundation stated that the non-binding Snapshot vote to build Starknet into an independent, quantum-resistant L1 has been completed, with 93.52% of voting power in favor. Starting today, a joint working group of StarkWare and the Starknet Foundation will lead the launch of research, with papers to be published in the coming months and progress continuously synchronized on the governance forum.
The Foundation emphasized that this vote is only an authorization to initiate research and does not equal approval for Starknet to convert to an L1; the formal proposal must wait until the research and design phase is completed before being submitted to the community for a vote. It stated that Starknet's STARK proofs rely on hashes, and its programmable accounts can change signature schemes, giving it architectural advantages in post-quantum security, but as an L2 it remains constrained by Ethereum's timeline, while Ethereum aims to achieve a quantum-resistant L1 around December 2029.
