On July 4th, version 12.0 designed in collaboration with StarkWare, LambdaClass, and Starknet ecosystem partners was officially launched on the testnet. If the Starknet community votes in favor, this version will be launched on the mainnet around July 13th.
This upgrade version is named "Quantum Leap", which means a significant improvement in the TPS of the Starknet network. According to official information from Starknet, the network's Time To Inclusion is expected to be less than 15 seconds under normal circumstances after upgrading to version 12.0, and the TPS of the Starknet network will reach three digits.
Starknet and StarkWare's CEO and co-founder, Eli Ben-Sasson, told BlockBeats that the new version of Starknet, Quantum Leap, brings a leap in TPS that has not yet been achieved in the current Ethereum ecosystem. "Quantum Leap provides much-needed block capacity increase, which will be a significant growth and help Starknet surpass all other L2 solutions," said Ben-Sasson.
In addition to the improvement of TPS, this upgrade also has significant changes in the acceleration of the Sequencer. Previously, Starknet established a one-year partnership with LambdaClass to improve its Sequencer. Currently, the Starknet Sequencer has been rewritten from Python to Rust in order to bring significant performance improvements.
LambdaClass founder and CTO Federico Carrone told BlockBeats that Quantum Leap is a historic moment for blockchain and verifiable computing. "The Starkware scientific and engineering team has created an amazing product, and we are excited to collaborate with them."
Additionally, StarkWare has introduced Blockifier and Papyrus. The former is a Rust-based block execution logic designed to reduce transaction wait times and alleviate network congestion. The latter is a local storage solution used to further optimize the system performance and responsiveness of Starknet. The 12.0 upgrade also eliminates "pending" transactions to provide a smoother user experience. System calls have also been introduced to allow for easy retrieval of past block hash values, which will play a role in improving the efficiency of Proof of Storage.
Starknet team said that Quantum Leap, combined with higher TPS and faster inclusiveness, will pave the way for faster DeFi applications and more realistic 3A games on the Web3 technology stack. Uri Kolodny, CEO and co-founder of StarkWare, told BlockBeats: "Developers are the core of Starknet and the latest upgrade, Quantum Leap, aims to liberate developers from the computational limits they are already accustomed to in today's Ethereum ecosystem. By increasing transaction speed and reducing latency, Starknet enables developers to more easily build the next 'killer' application on the Web3 track."
According to Starknet, the upcoming 13.0 version upgrade will focus on reducing user gas costs, while version 14.0 will allow developers to pay additional fees to prioritize transaction processing. The team believes this will help address potential network congestion issues.
