WSJ: FTX may be exempt from U.S. law

BlockBeats: On November 14, The Wall Street Journal revealed that FTX's offshore status could shield the company from U.S. law. FTX's bankruptcy is being investigated by the U.S. Attorney's office in Manhattan, but one challenge for prosecutors is whether they have jurisdiction over the Bahamia-based company. Lawyers warn that U.S. law enforcement agencies may not have strong jurisdictional claims if all of the actions took place overseas and there is no direct connection to the United States. However, SBF has travelled to the US, including meeting US lawmakers and regulators, and FTX US is part of FTX's bankruptcy filing on Friday. So far, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's office in Manhattan declined to comment, while an FTX spokesman and FTX US general counsel Ryne Miller did not respond to requests for comment.
