How much did DeFi insurance pay out in the last six months?

Read this article in 21 Minutes
There are three pain points in the traditional insurance industry

Original title: IOSG Weekly Brief | how much DeFi insurance paid out in the last six months

Source: IOSG

Decentralized insurance

The traditional insurance industry has the following three pain points:

Agency: The client depends on the trust of the insurance company, including how it invests its money, how and when it pays the policyholder, and so on.

Low transparency: It is difficult for customers to evaluate insurance companies because the insurance industry is riddled with information asymmetry.

Regulation is costly: historically, about 35% of policyholders' premiums are "frictional costs" caused by regulation.

One of the main reasons why traditional financial investors are afraid of DeFi is the lack of a stable and safe insurance business. Due to the high price volatility of digital assets themselves and the security issues of smart contracts, it is too early for traditional insurance companies to provide business in still frontier areas such as DeFi or digital currency, then decentralized insurance such as Nexus Mutual and OPYN is a market that DeFi has the potential to disrupt. Blockchain technology and smart contracts can eliminate not only administrative inefficiencies, but also most of the costs associated with governance and regulation. They can provide trust (which has moved from institutions and regulations to transparent code) in a more cost-effective way.
