BlockBeats news, November 5 - According to Reuters, after Binance suffered a $6.3 billion hack last week, the U.S. Federal Reserve and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) began contacting banks on Monday to inquire whether their systems had experienced abnormal activity or service disruptions, in order to investigate the risk of security incidents in the crypto market spreading to the traditional financial system.
People familiar with the matter said that multiple banks are conducting security diagnostics on their internal systems and assessing whether there are vulnerabilities that could be exploited by similar attack methods. The cybersecurity team of a major U.S. bank has contacted Binance and begun drafting an internal report, which may subsequently be used to review systems and update cybersecurity measures.
Binance stated that it is currently maintaining close contact with global regulators and promptly reporting this security incident. The Federal Reserve and the OCC declined to comment.
People familiar with the matter also noted that the rapid evolution of AI models has increased the difficulty for banks to defend against hacker attacks, and banks are investing substantial resources in reviewing and patching cybersecurity code.
