BlockBeats news, October 22 - According to Bitget market data, the intraday decline in spot gold widened to 2%, currently reported at $4,057.67 per ounce.
On the news front, U.S. private nuclear fusion startup Marathon Fusion announced this morning that it has successfully achieved high-efficiency alchemy: converting mercury into real, stable gold. According to its video introduction, Marathon Fusion uses beam-driven fusion technology to convert mercury-198 into mercury-197, which decays into stable gold-197 after about 64 hours; it can also breed tritium and generate electricity. Laboratory simulation environments show that each GWth can produce more than 2 tons of gold per year, potentially doubling the economic value of power plants.
In response, market analysis points out that the technology is still in the small-scale laboratory demonstration stage, with output far from commercial scale, and therefore has almost no substantial impact on gold in the short term. However, if the technology matures and is commercialized in the future, it theoretically has the potential to disrupt gold's fundamentals.
