SK Hynix CEO: Memory Chip Shortage Could Last Until After 2030

BlockBeats News, July 11th – SK Hynix CEO Seok-Hee Lee stated that the current memory chip shortage affecting the computer, automotive, and equipment markets may last until after 2030. Lee mentioned that customers are signing long-term contracts because they "believe the shortage situation will persist longer."

The company and its peers – Samsung Electronics and Micron Technology – have emerged as major beneficiaries of the AI boom. The massive spending by data center operators has driven demand for both traditional memory and a new type of high-bandwidth memory. This buying spree has made it even more challenging to meet the widespread demand for memory chips, leading to shortages in areas such as computers, smartphones, and automobiles.

Lee stated that SK Hynix's analysis indicates that this shortage may last into the next decade. Customer signals also suggest that people are anticipating insufficient availability of memory chips for the foreseeable future.
