According to TechInsight Beating, Stargate is an AI data center initiative driven by companies such as OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle, planning to invest $500 billion over four years in the United States. Lancium, responsible for the first Texas site's land and power facilities, is in talks with multiple tech companies to sell minority stakes.
NVIDIA has shown interest. The deal for Lancium could value the company at up to $7 billion to $10 billion, including corporate debt. Anthropic has also reached out to Lancium but has not entered formal negotiations.
Lancium is mainly seeking land suitable for data center construction, obtaining grid interconnection permits, and constructing power facilities such as substations. In the Stargate Texas Abilene site, Lancium is in charge of the land and power infrastructure, while Crusoe is responsible for data center construction.
Tech companies are interested not only in the land but also in Lancium's obtained grid interconnection permits and power capacity. These resources enable large data centers to start construction and receive power more quickly.
