Quantum Risk: Quantum Risk truly exists, representing a systemic issue rather than being limited to cryptocurrency

BlockBeats News, April 1st, QCP stated in a post that a recent Google paper has once again sparked a discussion on the security of quantum computing and cryptography, particularly the Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) used by Bitcoin and Ethereum. This is a long-term structural issue, not an immediate market risk, and this distinction is very important. The security of ECC is based on the elliptic curve discrete logarithm problem, which protects the private key, making it computationally infeasible to derive the private key from the public key. However, this standard also secures banking networks, encrypted communication, and global financial infrastructure (such as the SWIFT system). Therefore, if quantum computing breaks ECC, its impact will be global, not limited to digital assets.

From a technical perspective, the computational power required to break ECC is still far away. As of now, the world's most advanced quantum systems are only a small fraction of this threshold, about 1,000 times away, meaning that practical attacks are still very distant. Digital assets will not be the primary target of attacks. The global banking system and sensitive communication infrastructure will be more direct and high-value targets.

QCP stated that as this risk has been recognized, the traditional financial and crypto industries are actively investing in post-quantum security and upgrade paths. Protocol communities are exploring mitigation strategies, and global standards are continuously evolving. Quantum computing is a long-term issue that requires industry attention and preparedness, not a reason to reevaluate digital assets in the near term. Current media headlines are ahead of the actual situation. Currently, no quantum system can perform such attacks on a large scale. In the future, once the relevant technology matures, it will be a system-wide coordinated upgrade, not an event specifically targeting cryptocurrency. This should be understood as a future technological shift, not a current market shock.
