The Federal Reserve is expected to unveil more details on how it will shrink its $9 trillion balance sheet at a two-day closed-door meeting starting today, according to Coindesk. This follows interim Fed Chairman Jerome Powell's comments at an ImF-hosted panel discussion in April that the Federal Open Market Committee was considering raising rates by 50 basis points (0.5 percentage points) in May. Traders are pricing in a 98.7 percent chance of a Fed rate hike in May of "75 to 100 basis points," according to the latest cME FedWatch data.
On April 30, CORE inflation in the US remained high, but may be close to peaking both month-on-month and year-over-year. However, judging from the CPI and PCE data in March, the overall inflation pressure may not have peaked yet under the influence of "highly elastic" price increases such as energy prices. Huatai Securities believes that the Federal Reserve rate meeting in May and June is likely to raise interest rates by 50bp, and start to shrink the balance sheet as soon as May -- if implemented, it will be the first time since October 2019 (nearly 30 months) -- financial conditions are still accelerating tightening, the real interest rate curve may move up and continue to flatten. The end of the second quarter will be an important observation point for the Fed's reassessment of aggregate demand, inflation and labor market conditions. The (golden) ten
BlockBeats news, April 22, Federal Reserve Chairman Colin Powell said that a 50 basis point rate hike will be on the table at the May meeting. A little faster action on interest rates would be appropriate. Many at the Fed think one or more 50 basis point increases are appropriate. We are committed to getting inflation back to 2%. On April 14, Federal Reserve Board Member James Waller said he expects inflation to have peaked and will fall. It said it was leaning toward a 50 basis point rate hike in May, with more hikes likely in June and July. It hopes to reach above neutral rates in the second half of this year. The (golden) ten
