On June 28th, Ethereum founder Vitalik held a public AMA on Twitter, answering various questions from the public, including industry-related and personal life-related topics. Some of the interesting and noteworthy attitudes and viewpoints, as well as personal experiences, were also included.

For example, Vitalik believes that MPC-based EOA wallets have fundamental flaws, and smart contract wallets are the only choice, which has also led to a backlash from MPC wallet practitioners.

When answering Bankless founder David's question, Vitalik expressed his dissatisfaction with those who only see tokenization as the main breakthrough and innovation of cryptocurrency. Although acknowledging that tokenization has promoted the emergence of new economic models and democratized access to financial tools, Vitalik seems to believe that this narrow perspective undermines the technology's broader potential.

Previously, Vitalik publicly stated that BCH was largely a failure. Now he states that BCH has made progress culturally.

Finally, Vitalik seems to have an impressive record of the longest hiking distance of 113 kilometers, taking 23 hours, which is terrifying.

Here is a collection of selected Q&A from TechFlow by DeepTech:

Soul Wallet: Would you include account abstraction on Ethereum if you could go back in time?

Vitalik: Yes, of course. I think if I were to build a system from scratch, I would incorporate something similar to ERC-4337 in the design. Here is a simplified version:

Each user account has a "verification code", which can only read storage space and tx.

TX first calls for verification using a verification code. If the verification is successful, TX specifies the code to be executed by the account.

Nonces are still managed by Ethereum.

Now, the main thing that is being overlooked and is truly important in the encryption industry is aggregation, which has become crucial (for example, proving aggregation). In regards to this, I believe it is difficult to choose between two options:

(i) Universal aggregation system of ERC 4337 style.

(ii) A more opinionated system where the aggregated thing is "claims", with one basic claim being a static call to the current Ethereum state, and the claim is then aggregated with a proof through ZK-EVM.

Looking to the future, (ii) seems to be more accurate.

By the way, I will also try to think about whether there are any useful methods to make privacy more native. Maybe I won't pursue anything like ZKS, but come up with some tools that make privacy easier. Perhaps good recursive snarking is exactly what we need.

Eva Beylin: Which countries do you think are most likely to become the most crypto-friendly and become long-term livable crypto centers?

Vitalik: Small countries are usually more favored than large ones.

Owocki.th: What excites you in the field of regeneration/public goods financing?

Vitalik: Better tracking and tracing of the origin of funds, so that the entire process tree that leads to certain selected work can be identified and rewarded. It's cool to see more work in this area if possible.

JAKE: Zuzalu, what aspects surprised you compared to your expectations?

Vitalik: I think Zuzalu has been successful as an experiment, and many core assumptions have been validated:

1. It is entirely possible to organize the entire development of the matter.

2. People are willing to stay.

3. Successful ideas cross-pollinate.

4. ZK technology integration successful.

5. Successful support for a healthy culture.

Evan Van Ness: Are you worried that Ethereum culture may be following a path too similar to Bitcoin culture, where the loudest voices are non-technical?

Vitalik: Uncertainty about non-technical aspects is not necessarily the problem itself, it is more like the intersection of (i) non-technical aspects, (ii) excessive confidence, and (iii) confrontational darkness. I think the latter two are more important. However, it is definitely worth paying attention to!

Longzhu: What is your imagination of the scale and complexity of the human Mars city? If there are one million people settling on Mars by 2050, and a ticket to Mars costs only $50,000, with Ethereum TPS reaching 60 million, would you permanently go to Mars?

Vitalik: It depends on the quality of life! (As well as the jurisdiction ultimately held by the Martian city, and the culture...)

Pourteaux: Do you think it is worth cultivating a kinship relationship between Ethereum and Bitcoin holders? If so, how can we achieve this goal?

Vitalik: I want to say that a potentially important area of coordination is to work harder together to support non-blockchain freedom + privacy tools. End-to-end messaging (without phone numbers), internet anonymity, end-to-end collaboration tools, secure operating systems (graphene, qubes), open hardware, open VR...

DavidHoffman: What is the aspect that you dislike the most and consumes the most of your energy/spirit in the world of encryption?

Vitalik: As always, people believe that the main innovation of cryptocurrency is tokenization.

Next is:

1. Large-scale capital mismatch (Note by DeepTech: seems to refer to capital allocation to what he considers to be garbage projects).

2. People who are prone to violating principles (ahem, fake liberals...).

3. On the other hand, there is the completely unrealistic belief in pure minimalism ("12-word seed phrases are good enough for anyone!").

4. Unnecessary conflicts

Yuga: How do you view the advantages and disadvantages of MPC (EOA) based wallets and smart contract wallets?

Vitalik: There is a fundamental flaw in MPC-based EOA wallets, as they cannot revoke keys (re-sharing does not count, as the old holder can still recover the key). Smart contract wallets are the only option.

Note: Bitizen, the MPC wallet founder, responded to Vitalik's comments, stating that he is an outstanding genius programmer, but may also be a terrible product manager.

QMA564: What are the applications you use most frequently?

Vitalik: Browser, chat software, duolingo, pleco, Eth wallet.

Yama: Will you continue to donate to Ukraine?

Vitalik: Yes, I donated to several places this year. (Note: he donated directly in cryptocurrencies such as ETH.)

Andrey: What do you think are the top 5-10 most likely disaster outcomes caused by humans in the next century?

Vitalik:

1. Artificial Intelligence 2. A meticulously designed super pandemic. Nuclear war is heading towards the fate of existentialism, and the unbreakable authoritarianism enhanced by artificial intelligence is also worrying.

The Bitcoin Cash Podcast: How do you view BCH now? I believe your recent public comments were primarily due to the focus on internal rebellion, but will the stability of the past 2.5 years and the current unity of the community make you reconsider this viewpoint?

Vitalik: Cultural progress is evident! Wishing you all the best of luck.

Alex: What do you think is the latest research direction for p2p networks related to Ethereum that is worth the time and effort for new researchers/engineers to study?

Vitalik: Just make the existing Ethereum p2p layer more powerful (including intentional censorship, firewalls, etc.), not sexy, but very important.

Cxqmaggie: What is the farthest distance you have ever walked?

Vitalik:

NIMI VISHI: This is a question about Zuzalu. What is the biggest achievement? In which areas will you do better next time? When is the next event?

Vitalik:

There are approximately 10 ideas, but I hope to see more in-depth coordination of technologies that are free/open/decentralized/privacy-friendly than zupass and zupoll.
