You are reading about the STATUS of the DAO, a high-quality newsletter for understanding the DAO.

The DAO State of the art highlights high-quality content from the DAO ecosystem and presents it in an easy-to-understand format for your reference.

This week, we've prepared a series of resources on how to join a DAO to start your own DAO journey. Then, we examine DAO ecology from the perspectives of community building, governance, and integration with the off-chain world. There's a lot to dig into, so let's get started!

1 How do I Join a DAO

By Samantha Marin

You want to join a DAO. Welcome! You'll have a lot of like-minded people. In this article, we will briefly cover the first steps in getting started on the DAO journey. Then, we'll put together some DAO FAQs and action lists to ease you into the wild West of decentralized work, revenue, and community.

Step 1: Study the DAO ecology

图片

There are many types of DAOs, including social daOs, protocol DAOs, project-based DAOs, and even company-converted DAOs. Since there is no complete database of DAO information, you must comb the web to find the DAO that is right for you. Here are some resources to help you get started.

- DAO landscape, created by @cooopahtroopa on Mirror.

- This huge list of DAO resources, created by @kinjal on Mirror.

- DAO project database, maintained by DAOists

- Top DAOs, from Token Market Cap.

- The Stateless Newsletter, published in this week's Top DAO News.

Step 2: Select the DAO that best fits your target

You can't know the true temperament of a DAO unless you join in. However, if you do not want to purchase the governance tokens required to vote, it is possible to join without voting. Each DAO is different, but many have the option of walking in without buying tokens.

Most DAOs operate through Discord, so do a Search on Twitter to find out how to join. In addition, some DAOs have publicly accessible websites or repositories of information. For example, Bankless DAO's Notion page & NBSP; It's home to all the important resources.

When you join a DAO, the first thing you should evaluate is the atmosphere. The core of the DAO is the community. Everyone in the community makes DAO such a great place to work. Unlike traditional jobs, the cost of switching from DAO to DAO is minimal, so be sure to find a place where you can be happy with your colleagues and reflect the values you hold.

There are a lot of things to do in DAO, and more and more activities. We recommend starting with one DAO before committing to multiple DAOs. You may even find yourself working full-time for a DAO, so don't jump into the mix!

Step 3: Start work

Now you are in DAO! Congratulations. Your first priority is not to drown. There is a series of activities in the DAO, mainly in Discord. It's tempting to read all the messages, but keeping up with every workflow is almost impossible. This process can be very frustrating and ultimately exhausting.

The best way to start is to find a place where you can offer value. Pick one thing and start. Whether & have spent Take the minutes of the meeting. Or go into a channel and brainstorm with other members. Start small, as long as your feet steady, you can step by step to success.

Attending meetings is often the best place to start. That's why there is a calendar at the bottom of this article! It's hard to know everything that's going on in the DAO just by reading the Discord text channel. Listening to other members talk is the best way to get to know your colleagues in your DAO. It's also easier to introduce yourself there, so your message doesn't get lost in the channel.

As scary as it may seem, it's important to get into a project as soon as possible. There's nothing wrong with reading channels, listening to a few meetings, and then contributing nothing. For investment is not much, not good project can be withdrawn at any time. Ask other DAO members which project is a good place to start, and join it! Always ask for help and advice so you can get off to a fast start.

Step 4: Contribute to governance

At this point, you're basically a DAO member, and now it's time to participate in governance. In order to & have spent To vote, you need to hold a certain number of governance tokens. You can buy tokens directly, usually through Uniswap or SushiSwap. But another way to collect tokens is to roll up your sleeves and get to work. DAO staff are usually paid DAO governance tokens, so you can work your way up to becoming a voting member. You will be rewarded with tokens for everything you contribute to the DAO, so the more work you put in, the sooner you will become a voting member.

The type of projects your DAO takes on (and pays you to complete) will depend on which DAO you are in. For example, in Bankless DAO, members can get paid for writing articles, designing graphics, developing internal products for our DAO, creating videos, and so on.

Question and answer

-- Do I have to pay to join the DAO?

This depends on the DAO. Some DAOs have free access to their communities. For others, you have to buy tokens. For example, Bankless DAO has a visitor pass system and a read-only Discord channel, so potential members can learn about the DAO before committing their money.

-- Do I need to be an encryption expert or developer to join the DAO?

Not at all. DAO requires people with a wide variety of skill and knowledge bases. For example, many DAOs have writers, graphic designers, marketers, software developers, translators, artists, photographers, community leaders, and so on.

-- How many hours per week do I have to devote to the DAO?

You can give as much as you want -- that's what it is. Open source projects built through grassroots communities & NBSP; The beauty of. Instead of a rigid 9-to-5 schedule, you can contribute 2 hours a week and still be a beneficial DAO member. Alternatively, you can contribute to a number of projects and end up earning a full-time salary on the chain. Quit your boring job? That's a good idea. It really is that simple!

Add DAO actions to the list:

- Research the DAO ecosystem to see which organization is the best fit for you.

- view & have spent Guides and helpful links in their social media and online resources.

- Join Discord and start contributing to your area of interest. Don't spread your energy too early on too many projects. If you can, join a meeting.

- earn & have spent Get paid on the chain and get the benefits of being a voting member of a front organization.

This is an hour-long video of Gaby Goldberg, Cooper Turley, and Alex Zhang talking about "working for DAO" at ETHOnline2021 Governance & DAO Summit. This conversation gave us an idea of what it's like to work for DAO every day -- specifically Friends with Benefits. They delve into how they got into the DAO world and when they decided to work full-time for the DAO. The dialogue includes the following topics:

- challenges of transitioning from a web2 company to a web3 world.

- How the concepts of compensation and equity work in the DAO.

- How will your future work enable you to use your skills in several DAOs instead of just working for one company?

- Figure out how to start contributing and how to get involved in the community.

Pods: Improved Token Voting

By Maria Gomez,Julia Rosenberg, and Chun Poon

Orca protocol hopes to solve the problem of token voting by establishing a unique organizational structure of sub-DAOs in the large DAO system, realize the synchronous development of horizontal and vertical, and help THE FURTHER expansion of DAO.

- Decentralization may make organizations more chaotic.

- Making operations more organized means compromising on decentralizing.

- Token voting may fundamentally deviate from the incentive structure inherent in the DAO.

- The Orca protocol's token-voting solution is to have multiple "pods" as child DAOs in a larger DAO.

- Each "pod" will control its own operations and funding through its own multiple signatures.

- Individual "pods" will vote on DAO governance, taking the governance process away from token holders.

MakerDAO members are discussing incorporation and taxes and more far-reaching issues.

MakerDAO is working on how it should communicate with governments around the world. Start a discussion that will have far-reaching consequences beyond just paying taxes. Here are some points to watch:

- Tax implications of the full transition from Maker Foundation to DAO.

- If they were to be incorporated, which jurisdiction would they choose to register in?

- MakerDAO currently has no legal structure. How daOs should be classified is up in the air.

- Concerns about unlimited liability have led to proposals such as creating a self-insurance fund.

The Value of Governance

By Sam McCarthy

The original link: https://boardroom.mirror.xyz/r_puxIhiNRMAdVwGt_Yht2pykpSjb0bp9dVWFdcU-DE

Key points:

- "value" can be understood from an economic, sociological or linguistic perspective.

- When behaviors and objects are incorporated into social systems, they become meaningful or valuable to humans.

- Tokens with governance rights allow people to freely express their ideas and beliefs by contributing to and voting on community initiatives in an open forum.

- in web3, the value of a governance token comes from its ability to influence the evolution of a new system, define the impact it will have on society, and accumulate associated status and reputation.

- Governance premium is equal to the value of participating in the governance agreement, reflecting investors' perception of control over the future of the project.

- Variables affecting the governance premium include project growth, "Total Assets under Management" (AUM), and community strength.

Key points:

- A decentralized autonomous media network, also known as DAMN, is a DAO purely focused on media content creation and planning.

DAMN will expand into new markets by building a niche community.

- Organizations can simplify workflows with a single focus and governance minimization.

DAO focus: CityDAO

图片

Put land on the blockchain! Crazy idea, right?

Meet CityDAO - the community has a bold ambition to build a city on the blockchain!

-- Where did it happen?

In the vast, resource-rich state of Wyoming! Another interesting fact about Wyoming - Wyoming was the first to recognize the DAO; Legal entity & NBSP; In the state.

CityDAO's mission is to build a city where each piece of land is an NFT that can be jointly owned by DAO or individuals. DAO governance is directly related to citizenship.

-- What does this mean?

CityDAO citizenship is hierarchical, with different rights for each level. Citizens of CityDAO have priority access to NFT airdrops representing land and also have access to the internal Discord channel. There are three different types of citizenship NFT:

1. First Citizen NFT - There is only one NFT at the highest level, with exclusive naming rights and first priority to participate in land drops, as well as voting rights and access to the Citizen Discord Channel!

2. Founding Citizen NFT - There are 50 NFT at this level, and holders have the right to participate in land drops, second only to First Citizen, as well as the right to vote and access to the Citizen Discord Channel.

3. Citizen NFT - This is the NFT of the total supply of 10,000. It has the right to participate in land airdrop after first citizen and founding citizen. Citizens also have the right to vote and access to the Citizen Discord channel.
