Yesterday, the Prysm beacon node could not generate new blocks for two hours, resulting in a loss of 15ETH

The development team has now identified a solution to the problem, which caused more than 50% of block submissions on Ethereum to disappear on April 24.

On April 25, the Prysmatic Labs team updated their preliminary findings of the incident:

The error has occurred before, and in January 2021, the problem was reported as an isolated incident. No one was able to reproduce the error and it was considered an exception. The problem at the time certainly did not affect a large number of users.

Currently, Prysmatic Labs is still investigating root causes and long-term solutions. Although the team believes that this may be a rare extreme condition, a preliminary solution has been identified and some preliminary data indicates that the total loss impact from this event amounts to about 15 ETH. The average verifier lost 122,950 GWEI due to missing proof due to insufficient block capacity. At today's prices, that would be about $0.30.

Prysmatic Labs has released the following facts about this incident:

1. Slash punishment will be imposed on those who fail to verify;

2. It has no influence on the final determination of beacon chain;

3. The participation rate remains high (minimum 84.8 per cent);

4. Most validators miss 2 or 3 validations, regardless of the client type;

5. This is unlikely to be a malicious or purposeful attack.

The mainnet is stable and there is no need or recommendation for Prysm operators to take action at this time. Please wait for the fix to be released in the next few hours.
