Hayes has been released on $10 million bail and his trial will take place in New York.

Former BitMex CEO Arthur Hayes has turned himself in to US authorities in Hawaii, Bloomberg reported on April 7. Hayes appeared before a federal judge in Hawaii and was released on $10 million bail before court proceedings are set to take place in New York.

As previously reported by Rhythm, Hayes will voluntarily cooperate with US authorities on April 6, based on past negotiations between him and the US government.

Mr. Hayes was named as a defendant in two lawsuits filed last year by the Justice Department and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. The authorities allege in court documents that BitMex knowingly gave retail investors in the US access to illegal options and leveraged trading, and knowingly failed to provide them with proper "KYC" checks -- a serious violation of the Bank Secrecy Act.
