According to The BlockreportsStellar went down for nearly two hours Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. Eastern because enough nodes stopped working "for various reasons" and the network stopped working. The network was unable to reach a consensus, and no transactions were verified during this period.
Stellar co-founder Jed McCaleb, said: "in the past few months, we have been trying to make people no longer rely on SDF node. About a month ago, the SDF node can be safely closed cases, the network will continue to run. But it also means that even if the SDF node is still running, the network may also stop. Unfortunately, today's things are like that."
According to Stellar, the SDF nodes and most of the validators in the network are running, but they can't safely close the ledger because the amount of node information isn't up to standard.
Stellar cto Nicolas Barry said more information about these issues will be announced "in the next few days," including what Stellar will do to address them. "All I can say at the moment is that this is due to too much decentralization, too much devolution, and the right thing to do is to shut down the system," Barry said. Since this incident, the price of Stellar tokens (XLM) has risen by 20%.
