Diar is a weekly newspaper publisher focused on analyzing digital currencies and data sources for digital assets.

Fadi Aboualfa, the media founder who is popular with cryptocurrency users, was born and raised in Greece, completed his studies in the UK and now lives and works in Cyprus. Diar is not his first venture; Fadi says he has previously started oneA platform focused on art galleries, but closed in less than a year. He then founded Diar, inspired by friends.

How did you get into bitcoin and blockchain?

Fadi: just before encryption took off in 2017, a friend said encryption would take off, but there is no data-driven weekly dedicated to this area. After he installed the Jaxx wallet on my laptop and sent me some bitcoin, I took a deep breath and was taken aback by the deal.

The creation of a Diar

Fadi: Diar was started by both of us, but he saw a different opportunity. But I liked the field and the idea of the magazine, so I kept working, and in October 2017, I hired only one person to start the first issue of Diar.

What is Diar's vision? What's special about it compared to other publications?

Fadi: Diar's vision is to continue what it has achieved to date by providing the industry with a source of data-based analysis that provides a macro perspective and a forward-looking view of the direction of the field. Diar stands out for its unique format, structure and overall look, as well as its compelling content. That's why we have high quality, loyal readers.

Since you are one of the few data-driven researchers, what data are you and your Diar looking for?

Fadi:Diar is always looking for interesting data. Seeking more information about lightning networks, private currencies and new supply flows from token inflation remains largely a gray area. The mortgage economy will be interesting with Cosmos and other upcoming new platforms.

What do you think of the crypto ecosystem in Europe?

Fadi: there are some very strong teams from Europe, but their voices are much more muted than their American counterparts. Melonport, Neufund, Quanterium, Argent, Ramp, Aragon. Crowdfunding laws in Europe still lag far behind those in the us, and it is a bit difficult for Neufund to raise money from non-qualified investors. Melonport is well ahead of its time, but it needs good funding from traditional markets to get on the chain. Quanterium is a low-profile, small over-the-counter business that has found clients from the world's biggest exchanges but still has to deal with regulators.

Anyway, there's hope. It just takes a little time. The good news is that decentralised applications in Europe are ready, provided regulators act in unison.

Personal supplementary opinions

Fadi: the FinTech press has reported that the boom in encryption may end after the destruction of Banks, because encryption is the solution to technology problems. But I think we are in a parallel financial system. Cryptography is not going to topple banking anyway. But it has sown the seeds of true asset ownership and the spirit of easier access to financial markets than we see in Banks and brokers today.

So now many traditional enterprises have launched their own blockchain projects, such as Goldman sachs and JP Morgan. A year ago, the word Defi didn't exist. Now it's a big deal. Tomorrow, who knows how it will happen and where it will go. The field will continue to advance as an experiment until it is no longer considered an experiment.
