Diar weeklyInstitutional bitcoin (BTC) investment products reported their fourth consecutive month of increased trading volume.
The percentage of institutional BTC products in total bitcoin transactions continued to grow steadily month-on-month, to 15 percent in January 2019, 17 percent in February, 18 percent in March and 19 percent in April.
Diar's data focuses on three institutional products -- CME bitcoin futures, CBOE bitcoin futures and Grayscale bitcoin investment trust.

According to the report data, the rise of institutional BTC products as a percentage of total bitcoin transactions did not reach the all-time high of 24% in July 2018. The CBOE is now the biggest loser. But Grayscale bitcoin investment trust (GBTC) has also lost its dominant position in the OTC market. At the beginning of 2018, GBTC accounted for more than 50 percent of the market share of these three institutional products; today, less than 24 percent remains.
Also, a recent report from asset manager Bitwise poured cold water on BTC volume on cryptocurrency exchanges: overall BTC volume in the us is declining amid the relative popularity of institutional products. A recent Bitwise analysis also noted that 95 per cent of trading volume on unregulated exchanges appeared to be artificial or non-economic in nature.
