The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) : Proposed to build MetaHKUST, an extended reality campus in the Metaverse

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) recently announced that it will set up MetaHKUST, an extended reality campus in the Metaverse, covering the Clear Water Bay campus of HKUST and the Guangzhou campus of HKUST, which will open in September, to provide immersive learning experience. The first phase will set up major infrastructure, including the construction of extended reality classrooms, and invite all university members to crowdsource scans for both physical campuses to provide the images needed for the virtual twin campuses. After the completion of the system, the two universities will be able to issue encrypted diplomas and transcripts in the form of NFT. Graduation ceremonies and open days will also be conducted in both virtual and physical forms. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Metacverse Research Centre team is working on the construction of a mixed reality classroom at HKUST's Guangzhou campus, which is expected to be completed before its opening in September. In conjunction with the similar classroom to be built at the Clear Water Bay campus, teachers and students from both campuses can participate in the same class at the same time.
