Claude Code game replication restrictions inadvertently affect legitimate development, Anthropic urgently adjusts rules.

Beating AI News Flash: Anthropic has just adjusted Claude Code's game development restrictions. Last week, the company added two prompt lines to Opus 5.5, prohibiting replication of existing games, but the rules also blocked projects that merely drew on gameplay mechanics in a normal way, triggering complaints from developers.

Anthropic engineer Addy Osmani acknowledged that the new rules were too broad. The issue has now been fixed in Claude Code 2.1.317: developers can directly reference existing games and tell Claude what gameplay they want, and it should develop an original game of the same genre accordingly. If asked to directly copy the original work, Claude will suggest creating a similar title instead.
