Sources: Trump privately predicts 'worst-case scenario' for midterms, Democrats may win both chambers

BlockBeats news, November 4 — White House senior correspondent Kristen Holmes, citing White House sources on the evening of November 2 on "Erin Burnett OutFront," said that Trump has privately predicted the "worst-case scenario" for the midterm elections to some allies and advisers — Democrats winning majorities in both the House and Senate.

Holmes said Trump has seen the polls, candidate conditions, and the overall political environment, all of which are unfavorable to Republicans. He not only made the above judgment but also discussed the possible consequences if Democrats control both chambers, including governance gridlock between the executive and legislative branches, investigations targeting the executive branch, and potential impeachment hearings.

That same day, when Trump delivered his final public speech before the election at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, he also conveyed a similar sentiment. He said: "For some reason, the sitting president always loses the midterms. But we gave this one a very strong try."

Holmes commented that it almost sounded like a kind of concession before the results were revealed. Holmes also mentioned that although Trump had already made this private prediction, when she asked White House officials how the president would react if Democrats really won both chambers, the response was "nobody knows, it depends on how he feels at the time." The report is based on anonymous sources, and the White House has not publicly responded. Voting ended on November 3, and preliminary results are being tallied.
