BlockBeats news, October 12: Based co-founder Edison posted a statement saying that in response to the recent card data leak incident, the team's compliance and operations departments have begun contacting and replying to affected users, and have notified the Singapore Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) and relevant regulators, while also filing a report with the police and currently cooperating with law enforcement authorities in the investigation. Edison said the card business is still operating normally, and the Based trading wallet and App have not been affected.
The wallet uses a self-custody model, and the platform does not hold users' private keys; the social login feature is supported by Privy, and users can still continue to use Based for trading. In response to outside discussion about a "admin backend leak five months ago," Edison said that backend is unrelated to this card data leak incident and did not contain any user data.
That backend belonged to an early development version of a hosted OpenClaw product that the team tested in March 2026, was only for small-scale internal testing, and it was later decided not to launch it and development has been stopped. Edison said the team's current priorities include continuing to support affected users, further strengthening security controls and monitoring systems, and continuing to build a better trading experience.
