BlockBeats news, September 19: Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal posted that the Polygon network is now ready to permanently burn 100 million POL. The relevant contract has been deployed to the testnet, and will go live on the mainnet after the security committee completes the final signatures. 100 million POL will be permanently removed from circulation, after which the community can also trigger POL burns every quarter.
Currently, Polygon's cumulative base fees have accumulated 12.1 million POL. Nailwal stated that since January 2026, POL has been in a deflationary state, network activity continues to grow, and the network has been scaled to 5,000 TPS.
