BlockBeats news, September 14 — According to BIT (Bit.com) market data, amid a sell-off in the AI sector, Dell Technologies shares fell more than 6% at one point on Monday, and the company's founder Michael Dell's net worth subsequently dropped by $15.1 billion to $261.4 billion, with his ranking on the Forbes Real-Time Billionaires List falling from 2nd to 4th, behind Musk, Larry Page, and Bezos.
Dell Technologies shares had previously benefited from the AI data center investment boom, with year-to-date gains at one point reaching about 321%. The company's financial report released on September 1 showed that second-quarter revenue reached $47 billion, up 58% year-over-year, while AI-optimized server revenue doubled to $16.4 billion. The company expects AI-optimized server revenue to reach $74 billion in fiscal year 2027, higher than its previous forecast of $60 billion.
This pullback coincided with a broad decline in AI-related stocks globally. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and others recently called for slowing the development of frontier AI, prompting the market to reassess AI capital expenditures and infrastructure demand. On Monday, Nvidia fell more than 3%, AMD dropped more than 5.5%, Intel fell 5.5%, SoftBank shares closed down more than 10%, and ASML and Samsung also weakened in tandem.
