BlockBeats news, September 12: Micron Technology announced record-breaking rewards for its employees in the China Taiwan region for fiscal year 2026, with some employees receiving bonuses equivalent to up to 68 months' pay, and minimum cash compensation reaching NT$1.7 million (approximately $53,800). Among them, junior engineers received average total rewards of about NT$3.4 million, plus annual equity grants.
However, the Taoyuan union, representing about two-thirds of Micron's employees in the China Taiwan region, still refuses to accept the current plan, insisting that 15% of the company's operating profit be included in employee bonus distribution, and stating that if the company does not respond to their demands, they will continue to advance strike procedures.
Micron currently has about 15,000 employees in the China Taiwan region and has cumulatively invested more than NT$1.6 trillion. This increase in rewards is believed to be related to the profit-sharing mechanisms of South Korean memory chip manufacturers. Samsung Electronics, under pressure from union strikes this year, ultimately agreed to establish a special bonus pool equivalent to 10.5% of the chip division's operating profit.
As labor negotiations at Micron's China Taiwan region enter a critical stage, if they ultimately escalate into an actual strike, it could affect Micron's production pace and further disrupt the global memory chip supply.
