Veteran of AlphaGo team leaves DeepMind to start a venture: Bringing AlphaGo-style reasoning into robotics

动察 Beating AI Flash: Thore Graepel, a veteran of Google's AlphaGo team, has left Google DeepMind to start a robotics venture. The goal is to bring "AlphaGo-style reasoning" into the physical world, enabling robots to plan and act autonomously in uncertain environments.

Graepel joined DeepMind in 2015 and contributed to AlphaGo, AlphaZero, and MuZero. In 2021, he moved to Altos Labs, and in 2025, he returned to DeepMind's Post-AGI team. The new company's name, funding size, and co-founders have not yet been disclosed.
