BlockBeats News, August 22nd, Anthropic has hired Amir Salek, one of the founders of Alphabet's Google custom chip project. Salek's joining is part of the AI lab's hardware strategy as it ventures into developing its own semiconductors.
On Friday, Anthropic announced that Salek will be joining the company's computation team. Salek was previously in charge of Google's Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) business until his departure in 2022, overseeing the delivery of the first seven generations of TPU chips.
Anthropic currently sources chips from multiple vendors, including NVIDIA (NVDA.O), Google, and Amazon (AMZN.O). However, the company has recently hinted at establishing its own in-house chip business. Anthropic, based in San Francisco, has already begun recruiting for this initiative and has posted relevant job positions.
