BlockBeats News, August 21st - This morning, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) held its inaugural Innovator Consultation Committee meeting, focusing on the evolution of crypto regulation, artificial intelligence in the smart financial market, and prediction markets.
The first session, "Evolution of Crypto Regulation: From Uncertainty to Clarity," discussed the development of the U.S. crypto asset market, regulatory fragmentation due to state-level licensing, lack of a federal market structure framework, and the impact of regulatory enforcement uncertainty on innovation, investment, and the location choice of crypto companies. The meeting explored how to advance regulatory modernization through existing legal authorities and establish frameworks for market integrity, customer protection, cybersecurity, and operational resilience in future congressional legislation.
The second session focused on artificial intelligence and the smart market, covering topics such as AI applications in trading, compliance, market surveillance, and risk management, as well as the rise of "Agentic Finance," where autonomous AI agents execute financial transactions and manage portfolios. It also discussed the integration of AI with the crypto market and related regulatory principles.
The third session concentrated on prediction markets and event contracts, discussing the role of prediction markets in price discovery, information aggregation, and risk management, as well as issues related to federal and state regulatory authority, market manipulation, product design, exchange responsibility, and customer protection.
Michael S. Selig, Chairman of the CFTC, served as the initiator of this Innovator Consultation Committee and attended the meeting. The CFTC views crypto assets, AI-driven financial agents, and prediction markets as key directions for the next phase of financial market innovation and regulatory framework development.
