BTC Whale Whisperer Squad Faces $180 Million Short Squeeze, All Positions Remain Safe from Liquidation

BlockBeats News, August 18th, according to TradingBeats (formerly Hyperinsight) monitoring, the two BTC follow-up addresses, 0x8c96 and 0x431f, which had been continuously synchronously trading before, currently have a combined short position of 2800 BTC, with a position value of approximately $179 million. The weighted average position price is around $63,984, making the total position size the largest on Hyperliquid.

Among them, 0x8c96 is shorting 1800 BTC with 40x leverage, with a liquidation price of $64,855; 0x431f is also shorting 1000 BTC with 40x leverage, with a liquidation price of $65,097. The total unrealized loss of the two is about $256,000.

Based on the current BTC price of around $64,076, the distance of the two short positions from the liquidation price is only about 1.2% and 1.6%, respectively. The individual short position of only 0x8c96 has exceeded the current largest long position.

In addition, the two addresses have canceled their stop-loss orders previously set near $63,971 and currently only retain take-profit market orders triggered at $58,123 and $58,423, respectively.

Meanwhile, the internal cohesion of this "copycat team" has begun to break down. 0x431f currently still authorizes an API proxy named "hy-copy" to replicate the trading relationship, but the latest positions are no longer strictly synchronized: 0x8c96 continues to increase the short position to 1800 BTC, while 0x431f has partially recognized the loss and stopped out 206.3 BTC, resulting in a realized loss of about $80,000.

With the two 40x short positions only 1% to 2% away from liquidation, the main address is still increasing risk, while the copycat addresses have started to reduce exposure due to losses. If BTC continues to rise, can this $180 million short team still maintain synchronization?
