Bezos Plans to Sell $4.1 Billion in Amazon Stock, Stock Price Closes Down Over 2%

BlockBeats News, August 5th, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos submitted a filing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), planning to sell approximately 15 million shares of Amazon stock, with a total value of around $4.1 billion based on Monday's closing price.

The filing indicates that this sale plan is based on a 10b5-1 preset trading plan adopted by Bezos on November 14, 2025, and will be executed by Morgan Stanley. The related shares were originally acquired in 1994 in the form of founder's stock.

Prior to the announcement of this divestment plan, Amazon's stock price had just hit a new all-time high on Monday. Fueled by last week's quarterly earnings report, the company's market cap exceeded $3 trillion. The strong performance of its cloud computing business in the second quarter has led the market to believe that its AI investments are translating into higher growth momentum.

Impacted by Bezos's divestment news, Amazon's stock price closed more than 2% lower on Tuesday. Year-to-date, Amazon's stock price has accumulated a gain of approximately 20%, outperforming the S&P 500 index's roughly 12% rise during the same period.

In recent years, Bezos has consistently sold Amazon stock through preset trading plans, but he remains one of the company's major shareholders. The filing shows that in May of this year, Bezos also donated 220,200 shares of Amazon stock to a non-profit organization.
