According to DeepTech Beating's monitoring, Bloomberg reported, citing insiders, that DeepSeek plans to build a 1GW AI data center in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia. The company will construct its own data center and also offer computing power for rent to other businesses.
Part of the capacity is expected to come online as early as the end of 2027 or the beginning of 2028. It is currently unclear what type of chips the project will use.
With a 1GW capacity, the project will exceed the size of existing AI data centers in China but remain below the planned 3GW and 5GW projects by American companies. DeepSeek is known for its focus on saving training costs and is now venturing into building heavy-duty infrastructure.
