BitMEX has announced that it will officially shut down on September 23, has halted new user registrations, and initiated an orderly liquidation.

BlockBeats News, July 23, BitMEX announced that it will officially close the trading platform on September 23, 2026, at 04:00 (UTC). Effective immediately, the platform has ceased all new user registrations. BitMEX stated that after conducting a strategic evaluation of the company's business and the entire crypto industry, the board of directors of its parent company, HDR Global Trading Limited, has decided to shut down the trading platform.

BitMEX strongly advises all users to close their positions and withdraw their funds as soon as possible. The trading platform will continue to operate normally until the closure time. However, starting from August 26, 2026, at 04:00 (UTC), the platform will implement risk limits. Users will not be able to open new positions and can only reduce their existing positions. Subsequently, BitMEX will gradually force-close existing positions to achieve an orderly market exit. Positions that remain open by the closing time will be forcefully closed immediately. The platform stated that it will not be responsible for any trading losses incurred by users who fail to close their positions in a timely manner. In addition, contracts with insufficient liquidity will be settled early, and the platform will notify relevant users in advance as usual.

After the trading closure, BitMEX will no longer provide any trading services and will only retain asset custody functions. Users can still log into their accounts to view wallet balances and transaction histories, and continue to withdraw their assets. The platform has released all BMEX staking, and the related tokens have now been returned to user accounts. For users who have completed KYC but have not withdrawn funds before the closure, BitMEX will begin to charge an account maintenance fee. The standard fee is calculated monthly based on the account balance, amounting to $50 or an annualized 1% (whichever is higher). If users continue to not withdraw funds for an extended period, the platform may further increase the fee schedule in the future and will notify users in advance.
