BlockBeats News, June 24th, Palantir Co-founder and CEO Alex Karp purchased a ranch in Sonoma, Colorado, covering approximately 3720 acres, for $120 million, setting a record for the highest real estate transaction in Pitkin County's history.
The property was originally owned by the Saint Benedictine Monastery, purchased by Trappist monks in 1956 and gradually expanded to its current size. Due to a continuous decline in the number of monastery monks and their inability to sustain operations, they eventually decided to sell the asset.
This estate is located about 15 miles from Aspen and includes a monastery, a chapel, an activity center, a barn, around 1500 acres of irrigated land, and water rights dating back to the 19th century. Due to local planning restrictions, it will not be possible to develop a mega-mansion project on the property in the future.
Reports indicate that Karp plans to use the property as a private residence. Alex Karp is currently worth around $11.7 billion. In recent years, as Aspen has become a gathering place for global elites, the prices of high-end properties in the area have continued to rise. Although the transaction price was discounted from the property's $150 million listing price in 2024, it still set a new record for the local historical transaction.
