a16z Leads Series A Round for Tessera Labs: 6-Person AI Team Replaces 60 SAP Consultants

According to Data Beating monitoring, AI system integration company Tessera Labs has completed its Series A financing round led by a16z. Founded in 2024, the company is replacing traditional consulting firms' ERP migration work with a multi-agent platform, initially focusing on upgrading SAP ECC to S/4HANA.

Founder Kabir Nagrecha entered the University of California, San Diego at the age of 13, obtained a computer science degree at 17, and a Ph.D. at 20, previously conducting research at Meta. a16z stated that his Ph.D. advisor described him as "the strongest student I have ever mentored." The company, founded 18 months ago, has already secured several multi-million-dollar annual contracts and has a team of over 30 people.

Standard support for SAP ECC will end in 2027, and approximately 10,000 ECC environments globally will need to be migrated in the next three years. Large-scale SAP migrations typically take 3 to 5 years, costing $100 million to $500 million, with about 70% of major transformation projects failing to meet expectations. Nagrecha mentioned that Tessera's agent system can analyze customers' ECC environments line by line, automatically categorize each component as retain, replace, or retire, then generate S/4HANA code, migrate test data, and orchestrate the transition process. A team of 6 people can accomplish in two years what previously required 60 consultants.

Unlike the "autocomplete for consultants" tools available in the market, Tessera directly performs the work with software and prices based on outcomes. Nagrecha believes that traditional system integrators such as Accenture and Deloitte have built their entire business model on hourly billing, and transitioning to software delivery would shrink one-time migration revenue by an order of magnitude, falling into the classic innovator's dilemma.
