US Media: US and Iran Close to Reaching Memorandum of Agreement to End War

BlockBeats News, May 6th, according to AXIOS, two U.S. officials and sources familiar with the matter revealed that the White House believes it is close to reaching an agreement with Iran on a one-page memorandum of understanding to end the war and establish a framework for further detailed nuclear negotiations. The U.S. expects to receive Iran's response on several key issues in the next 48 hours.

Sources described this as the closest the two sides have come to an agreement since the outbreak of the war. As part of the agreement, Iran will commit to suspending uranium enrichment activities, while the U.S. will agree to lift sanctions on Iran and release billions of dollars in frozen Iranian funds. Both parties will also lift restrictions on transit through the Strait of Hormuz. This one-page memorandum of understanding, consisting of 14 key points, is being negotiated by Trump envoys Brian Hook and Jared Kushner with Iranian officials through direct contacts and intermediary mediation.

Under the current version, the memorandum will declare an end to the regional war and initiate a 30-day negotiation period to reach a detailed agreement, including provisions on open navigation in the strait, limitations on Iran's nuclear program, and lifting of U.S. sanctions. These negotiations may take place in Islamabad or Geneva.

A U.S. official stated that during this 30-day period, Iranian restrictions on strait shipping and U.S. naval blockades will be gradually lifted. If the negotiations fail, the U.S. military will be able to resume blockades or take military action again.
