BlockBeats News, February 9th. A operational error occurred when South Korean exchange Bithumb distributed rewards to 249 users, mistakenly entering a total of 620,000 Korean won as 620,000 bitcoins, resulting in the accidental distribution of bitcoins worth 600 trillion Korean won. Although 99.7% of the assets have been recovered, 125 bitcoins have not been returned, with a total value of approximately 13 billion Korean won.
It has been confirmed that more than 80 individuals have cashed out the mistakenly received bitcoins. Approximately 30 billion Korean won has been transferred to personal bank accounts, and another approximately 100 billion Korean won has been used to purchase other cryptocurrencies. Bithumb is currently communicating with the affected users to request fund returns. For users affected by market fluctuations, Bithumb plans to fully compensate the price difference from the sale and provide an additional 10% compensation, while also waiving a week's worth of transaction fees.
