SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce: Partial Cryptocurrency Regulation Framework Could Be Established Later This Year

BlockBeats News, March 5th, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner Hester Peirce stated in an interview with Fortune magazine that although she did not support the previous enforcement actions, it did not mean that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission would cease enforcement in appropriate circumstances. Appointees in the crypto industry should not think they have a "free pass," as doing so would label fraud as a "cryptocurrency issue." She also stated that the SEC will continue to pursue securities violations in general. Hester Peirce also stated that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission will work to develop its own regulatory framework, but she refused to provide a timetable. However, she indicated that "part" of the plan will be completed this year, such as the development of a taxonomy for crypto securities.
