Foreign media: Thailand may promote blockchain-based digital wallets and airdrop tokens worth $285 to its citizens.
According to BlockBeats news on September 1st, the ruling party of Thailand is reportedly in talks with the country's central bank to develop a blockchain-based digital wallet. The infrastructure is expected to take at least six months to launch and the KYC process will charge each user 100 Thai baht. Additionally, the plan requires approval from the country's Securities and Exchange Commission.
The plan, according to sources, will airdrop 10,000 Thai baht (approximately $285 USD) in "Utility Tokens" to every Thai citizen aged 16 and above. However, the airdrop does not equate to legal Thai currency and the tokens can only be used within a four-kilometer radius of the user's residence. The tokens have a validity period of only six months and cannot be converted into cash or used to pay off debts.
As previously reported by BlockBeats, Thailand's incoming Prime Minister, Srettha Thavisin, was formerly the CEO of Sansiri, one of Thailand's largest real estate developers. Sansiri issued and distributed its own real estate-backed tokens, called "SiriHub," through XSpring in 2022.
