Yellen: The US Treasury Department is expected to run out of funds by June 5th.

According to a BlockBeats report on May 27th, US Treasury Secretary Yellen wrote a letter to Congress members regarding the potential default deadline, stating that "based on the latest available data, we now estimate that if Congress has not raised or suspended the debt ceiling by June 5th, the Treasury Department will not have enough resources to fulfill the government's obligations." Yellen pointed out that the Treasury Department will be able to disburse over $130 billion in scheduled payments in the first two days of June, including payments to retired veterans, social security, and Medicare beneficiaries. These payments will deplete the Treasury Department's resources to extremely low levels. (Jinse)
