A big step towards decentralization.

BlockBeats - on December 31, the non-profit organization behind the MakerDAO project, the Maker Foundation, announced the formal transfer of the combination of the Maker and Dai trademarks to the newly established independent Dai Foundation. In addition, Maker Foundation will also move through its software IP. The aim, according to the Dai foundation, is to "protect what is technically impossible to decentralise in the Maker agreement, namely certain intangible assets that form the basis of the agreement," ensuring that these assets are "used for the sustainable growth of the Maker agreement and to maximise the public interest that is consistent with a set of fundamental principles".

The Dai foundation's operating expenses will initially be donated by the Maker foundation. "The foundation is committed to promoting and supporting the decentralization of the Maker agreement," said Rune Christensen, chief executive of the Maker foundation. "by transferring the Maker and Dai trademarks to the Dai foundation, the community can rest assured that these assets are protected and will be used in the Maker agreement for the limited life of the Maker foundation."
