MEV (Maximal Extractable Value) has always been a hotly debated topic in the blockchain ecosystem, involving miners or validators manipulating the order of transactions to gain additional benefits, which not only threatens the fairness of transactions, but may also affect the overall security of the network.

In the DeFi field, these behaviors are particularly problematic because they can cause users to suffer price slippage, transaction failures, or other adverse effects.

Uniswap Criticizes Metamask for Centralization

Just today, Hayden Adams, founder of DEX leader Uniswap, tweeted that Ethereum's mainstream wallet MetaMask is too centralized, so that users must bear MEV losses:

"For Uniswap users, the simplest and most effective way to reduce MEV losses is to let MetaMask allow us to handle transaction submissions, rather than forcing all transactions to be signed and submitted through MetaMask's RPC and OFA."

RPC (Remote Procedure Call) refers to a protocol that allows a program to request services from software on another computer network. As a wallet, MetaMask uses RPC to communicate with different blockchain networks, allowing users to send transactions, check balances, and perform other blockchain interactions.

In addition, OFA (Orderflow Auction) is a process where exchanges or market makers bid to buy order flow from retail traders in order to obtain the right to execute these orders. This is seen as a way to reduce the impact of MEV and help users get better execution prices.

Hayden Adams expressed concerns about MetaMask's unified way of handling transactions. He said that they had made requests to MetaMask many times, but were still rejected. They believed that this harmed the interests of users and the industry.

MetaMask launches "Smart Transaction" to reduce MEV risk

However, there are differences of opinion in the comment area. Some people said that if the transaction submission power is really opened, it will be a great progress for MetaMask, but @tg_cryptos, who has 24,000 followers, said: "If the wallet service provider begins to authorize the project party to handle transaction submission, then there will be a big problem!"

In fact, in order to reduce MEV risks and improve the trading experience, MetaMask launched the "Smart Transaction" function in May this year. According to the official website, smart transactions can save gas fees, better perform token exchanges, and ensure to the greatest extent that users' transactions will not fail and be revoked.

At the same time, MetaMask emphasized that although smart transactions greatly reduce the negative risks associated with MEV, no system can completely eliminate these risks.

Users who want to try it can turn on the feature in the advanced page of the wallet settings, which is currently completely free.
