Movement Labs joins Polygon Labs’ AggLayer to bring unified liquidity to Move-based L2 chains

Public testnet launch attracts $160 million TVL, demonstrating strong demand for the Move ecosystem

Movement Labs, a network of open-source tools focused on the Move smart contract language, and Polygon Labs, a software development company building a converged blockchain network, today announced a strategic collaboration that marks a major milestone in blockchain interoperability. Movement Labs will join the Polygon Labs-developed AggLayer to enable unified liquidity between MoveVM-based Layer-2 chains, all AggLayer-connected chains, and Ethereum. This integration makes Movement the first Move-based ecosystem to leverage AggLayer, effectively bridging the gap between the Move and EVM ecosystems.

The announcement coincides with the launch of the Movement Labs public testnet, which has already attracted $160 million in committed TVL ahead of the mainnet. Solv Protocol, which is pioneering decentralized Bitcoin reserves, has committed $100 million in TVL on Movement. New and existing investors, including 280 Capital, have committed an additional $60 million in TVL.

As part of this collaboration, AggLayer will serve as the foundation for unifying liquidity between these MoveVM-based chains, AggChains, and Ethereum - solving the critical problem of fragmented liquidity in the blockchain space. The first components of AggLayer went live in February of this year, securely connecting autonomous chains together, unifying liquidity, users, and state, but feeling like a single chain. By solving the fragmentation problem in cryptocurrency, AggLayer enables developers to scale projects across an infinite network of connected chains.

Movement uses Celestia for data availability, providing a high-throughput solution that publishes transaction data off-chain while still settling to Ethereum. As the industry-leading data availability layer, Celestia allows developers to scale without permission, unlocking alt-VM L2 and high-throughput applications that were previously only feasible on alternative L1s like Solana or permissioned DA solutions.

By leveraging Polygon technology, Movement Labs aims to create an efficient, secure, and interoperable blockchain environment that addresses key Web3 challenges including fragmented liquidity and user experience.

Rush Manche, co-founder of Movement Labs, said, "Our platform addresses a critical need in the Web3 ecosystem where developers no longer have to choose between a trusted Ethereum environment and the security of an alternative L1. Movement offers the best of both worlds - the familiarity of Ethereum L2 with the enhanced security and performance of the Move language. This allows projects to deploy with confidence, knowing they are protected from common vulnerabilities while still leveraging the economic power of the Ethereum ecosystem."

Marc Boiron, CEO of Polygon Labs, also said, "AggLayer's mission is to unify the entire Web3 by bringing together as many users, developers, programming languages, different smart contracts and chains, and liquidity as possible. Introducing chains in the Movement network to AggLayer accelerates this mission and makes Web3 another step towards unlimited global interoperability. This collaboration will greatly help alleviate some of the most pressing challenges in Web3-liquidity dispersion and fragmented user experience, which currently hinder mass adoption."

The launch of the Movement Labs public testnet showcases six different Web3 projects that have been deployed on the Movement testnet:

· Echelon: An efficient money market designed to expand Move through strategies supported by LST, RWA and stablecoins DeFi & Liquidity.

· Moveposition: A decentralized lending platform on Movement Labs. Powered by an institutional-grade risk engine and using adaptive risk management, Moveposition provides users with a reliable and precise way to manage assets with a simple wallet connection.

· Meridian: A decentralized liquidity market and liquid staking protocol built natively on Movement Labs, enabling users to seamlessly trade and earn assets.

· Avitus: A Movement-native perpetual protocol that allows any asset to be used as collateral for trading, enabling users to trade with existing holdings without having to swap to blue-chip assets.

· BRKT: A decentralized prediction market and competition management protocol utilizing binary options and cup-style tournaments.

· Infinite Seas: A fully on-chain maritime trade, combat, and diplomacy MMO.

This collaboration and successful testnet launch are important steps in Movement’s “Road to Parthenon” — its path to mainnet.

By leveraging the AggLayer, Movement enables developers to deploy Solidity contracts on Move-based chains without code modifications, while benefiting from Move’s enhanced security features that eliminate nearly 90% of audit-first attack vectors. This integration not only enhances interoperability, but also paves the way for innovation and adoption in the blockchain space.

About Movement Labs

Movement Labs is the innovation force behind the Movement Network, a modular Move-based blockchain ecosystem that enables developers to build secure, efficient, and interoperable blockchain applications, bridging the gap between the Move and EVM ecosystems. The organization is developing Ethereum’s first Move virtual machine, L2, as well as open-source tools and protocols to promote adoption of the Move programming language in the blockchain ecosystem. With Movement, developers can easily spin up high-performance Move VM convolutions. With $38 million in Series A funding led by Polychain Capital, with participation from Binance Labs, Hack VC, Placeholder, OKX Ventures, and Archetype, Movement Labs aims to revolutionize blockchain interoperability and advance Move-based technologies in the Web3 space.
