Helius is a vertically integrated developer platform designed to help build encrypted applications on Solana. Today, it announced that it has completed a $9.5 million Series A financing round. The round was led by Foundation Capital, with participation from Reciprocal Ventures, 6th Man Ventures, Chapter One, Propel, and others.

Helius' vision is to eliminate the complexity of Solana for developers and improve the entire network from the bottom up. The company was founded in 2022 by former software engineers from Coinbase and Amazon Web Services. The platform provides a set of tools that allow developers to quickly and easily build applications on Solana.
The company stated in a statement that since its launch, Helius has developed into a pointer for most projects in the Solana ecosystem, helping developers deal with events such as the Jupiter airdrop and Helium's migration to Solana, while providing momentum for enterprise integrations such as Discord and Shopify.
Reciprocal Ventures partner Craig Burel stated in a statement: "Helius has been committed to the Solana ecosystem since day one."
Solana is one of the top 10 Layer 1 blockchains in the industry, with lower latency compared to its competitors and was previously known as the "Ethereum killer". Its SOL token has increased by over 400% in 2023, making it the fifth largest blockchain, while ETH has only increased by 66%.
However, Helius pointed out that the expansion of Solana has resulted in developers struggling to solve complex infrastructure issues, such as lower-level blockchain integration, rather than focusing on improving the applications themselves. Helius CEO Mert Mumtaz said in an interview with Fortune, "We hope to build on this foundation and extract everything from lower-level blockchain integration for developers."
Mumtaz said that it is these scalability issues that have slowed down the development of encryption applications for everyday users. He said, "Building cheap, scalable, and fast applications is too difficult." At the same time, he added that he believes Solana is the first major network that could achieve this goal. "It perfectly meets the best requirements for building these applications at the moment."
During his time at Coinbase, Mumtaz noticed that building a CEX that supports all chains would create friction. He told Fortune magazine, "You often end up spreading yourself too thin because each blockchain has its own culture, ecosystem, and technical architecture."
Helius Chief Technology Officer Liam Vovk stated in a statement that horizontal approaches often lead to poor dapp construction and chain performance. Helius is "fully committed to developing Solana and vertically integrating the entire stack, from validator plugins to open source developer SDKs."
