Aragon is moving towards "decentralization"

November 3rd, after a community vote, the DAO management platform Aragon made a major update and officially announced the dissolution of the Aragon Association committee responsible for managing the funds raised in the Aragon network token sale. Aragon will continue its mission in a product-centric structure in the future.

Aragon is a decentralized governance solution for the Web3 community and organizations, founded by Luis Cuende and Jorge Izquierdo in 2016. Its aim is to enable organizations, entrepreneurs, and investors to conduct business without legal relationships. Aragon's open-source stack supports the deployment of DAOs, community management, dispute resolution, and enterprise-level voting, all without intermediaries. Its mission is to create better on-chain, borderless, and transparent organizations.

Aragon has made significant contributions to the development of the DAO industry, such as developing aragonOS - a DAO framework that experiments with governance at software speed. Today, aragonOS supports Ethereum-based DAOs such as Lido and Curve, helping these projects manage over $16 billion in assets. Aragon App, developed by Aragon, is a user interface that allows anyone to deploy and manage a DAO without code.

This dissolved Aragon Association can be said to be the legal guardian of the Aragon project, responsible for managing the funds raised in the Aragon network token sale. According to the official website, Luis Cuende and Jorge Izquierdo, the founders of Aragon, respectively serve as members of the Aragon Association's committee and executive director.

The reason for the major update was explained by Aragon in the official announcement: "Although the finance department has grown significantly, the complexity of the bureaucracy, the inconsistency of stakeholders, and the failed attempts to modify governance have increased the internal tension of the project. It has been proven that neither AA nor ANT are suitable for managing the project. Aragon needs to start over and can't do anything except reset."

Community counts the Aragon Association's past "six sins"

Aragon community member @Samsara79416227 stated that in the past year, the Aragon Association (AA) has continued to disappoint all DAO members, its community, regulators, and others. In the past 6 months, it has been seen that AA has done many things that directly violate its responsibilities.

Samsara counted the "Six Sins" of the Aragon Association:

1. Ignore the vote: The vote to transfer the national treasury to AN DAO has been passed for 8 months, but the Aragon Association refuses to transfer any funds. Why are they ignoring the wishes of ANT holders?

2. Aragon Association did not provide transparency: multiple unanswered forum posts inquiring about the treasury. Aragon Association unilaterally decided to merge the treasury without discussion time/balance.

3. The Aragon Association missed the deadline: claiming they had a 4-month solution, but there has been no progress each month. It is now October 27th and there is no sign of any solution. Why the constant delays?

4. The negligence of the Aragon Association has left its team members feeling frustrated - the team had to create a separate Discord channel to ask Aragon Association questions because they lacked information/transparency. Even simple txns took weeks to complete.

5. Aragon Association Executive Director lied: claiming that his contract was not withheld, but this is a blatant lie. Why would a member of the Aragon Association lie about their position?

6. Aragon Association has shown malicious behavior, lacks caution in answering questions, lies, and cannot pay attention to voting, etc. This mockery of DAO cannot continue.

The Biggest Debate: Where Should the Remaining Funds Flow?

Aragon stated in an official announcement that the remaining funds will be used for product development. Meanwhile, the Aragon Association has deployed 86,343 ETH to the redemption contract on the Ethereum mainnet, and ANT holders can exchange their ANT for ETH at a fixed exchange rate of 0.0025376 ETH/ANT.

Regarding this decision, Aragon stated that due to legal restrictions, especially regulatory risks arising from token speculation and market manipulation, the decision cannot be submitted to a public vote.

The encryption researcher DCF GOD strongly disagrees with Aragon's behavior, pointing out that the team will take 100% of unclaimed funds for themselves. If holders do not see this announcement and claim within 1 year, they will never get this money again because the team will take it. DCF GOD has listed some feasible solutions for Aragon: A) Dead supply will receive some new tokens so that they can own anything the team builds with their money; B) All treasuries can be claimed forever, so when these holders discover it, they can claim; C) If Dead supply will never be claimed (still in migration), it should be burned to increase the claim value of everyone; D) All Dead supply belongs to everyone who claims it again (this is what happens in tradition, but we have smart contracts that can be more fair to later comers); DCF GOD cannot understand why Aragon chose option E and donated it to the team for future use.
