New York Times: Coinbase Shares User Data with Third Parties, Including App Open Times, Device Information, and IP Address

BlockBeat News has mentioned the issue of user privacy and data security in today's New York Times article. The author pointed out that some niche app developers would share the user data they collected with data aggregation companies. Companies like Sift would score and rate users, then sell the corresponding data services to other businesses.

BlockBeats News found that among the apps exposed by the New York Times are Airbnb, Yelp, Coinbase, and others. Airbnb would share chat records with third-party analytics firms, Yelp would share food delivery order information, and Coinbase would share app open records. All information includes device information, IP addresses, and more. In other words, if your information is collected and identified, in the future, a company will see scoring data based on your past behavior, which will be used for internal purposes.

The New York Times commented that such data services are very valuable for fraud detection and can also increase the value obtained from each customer. The reason why data from companies like Airbnb, Yelp, and Coinbase is sold is that companies like Sift have been hired by these companies to detect behaviors such as credit card fraud and identity recognition. However, while they collect such information, they also sell the data.

If you have also used services from companies like Coinbase and are concerned about your privacy, you can contact Coinbase or the relevant service provider to find out how much of your data they have taken.
