Flare, the blockchain used to build the application, successfully completed its long-awaited Token airdrop at 11:59 PM UTC on January 9. During the airdrop, 4.279 billion Flare Tokens (FLRS) were distributed to millions of users, including those of Binance, OKX, Kraken, Bithumb, UpBit, Kucoin, BitBank, etc. It was the largest airdrop distribution in cryptocurrency history.
This airdrop marks an important milestone for Flare, as developers can now take advantage of Flare's EVM and local data acquisition protocol State Connector, as well as the Flare Time Series Predictor. These network-protected local protocols provide decentralized access to high integrity data from other blockchains and the Internet, enabling the creation of new application scenarios and monetization models.
"In order for the blockchain industry to thrive, we need more useful decentralized applications," said Hugo Philion, Flare's CEO and co-founder. Flare is solving this problem with data -- not just prices, but transaction details, Web2 events, etc. -- so developers can build apps that deliver more utility to a larger audience."
Hugo adds: "Flare's goal is for developers to build applications that allow secure access to more data, so that new application scenarios can be built, such as triggering Flare smart contract operations by making payments on another chain, or by triggering inputs from the internet/web2 API. Flare also provides a new way to bridge, specifically by bringing non-smart contract tokens into Flare for use in applications such as the DeFi protocol."
Flare's Status Connector protocol enables secure, scalable, and untrusted use of information through smart contracts, provides the most powerful "class" data design on the web, and enables the building of more cross-chain solutions. The security of the state connector is achieved by combining a decentralized set of verifiers with a binary forking protocol that is resistant to malicious challenges by many data providers at the same time. In contrast to systems where the data provider has proof of equity with a pledge value threshold, the security of the status connector is not limited by the amount of pledge in the system. This means that the security of the state connector relative to the transaction size is constant, providing a secure system capable of handling large amounts of value.
The Flare Time Series Predictor (FTSO) uses network architecture to deliver highly decentralized pricing and data series to dapps on Flare, without relying on a centralized data provider. FTSO is a highly decentralized data feeder prognosticator that motivates nearly 100 independent data providers to deliver reliable data every 3 minutes.
FlareToken distribution accounts for the first 15% of total public Token distribution, with the remaining tokens to be distributed on a monthly basis over 36 months. The allocation method for the remaining 85% of Token supply is subject to the community vote on Flare Improvement Proposal 01 (FIP.01).
Flare is Layer1's network of prognosticators, allowing developers to build applications that interoperate with blockchain and the Internet. By providing decentralized access to high integrity data, Flare supports new application scenarios and monetization models.
With smart contracts on Flare, Flare's State Connector protocol makes information from other blockchain countries and the Internet secure, scalable, and permissionless.
The Flare Time Series Predictor delivers highly decentralized pricing and data feeds to DApps on Flare, without relying on a centralized provider.
Build on Flare with more data than ever before, or use Flare to build to serve multiple ecosystems.
