The world is moving faster than we think. Technology has evolved from Web1.0 to Web2.0 and now to Web3.0. Web 3.0 has a lot to do with the meta-universe. They are not the same thing. Web 3.0 is one of the technologies that enables the construction of metacomes.

The 12 metacomes we discuss in this article will be part of the Internet of the future (or at least some of them will be).

The metaverse, which I compare to the universe, is a place where people can live, work, shop and do many things through avatars, and we don't have to travel to do them in person. We will be able to access thousands of virtual worlds from our own bedrooms.

The metaverse is said to be the next evolution of the Internet, and when Facebook changed its name to Meta in October 2021, there was a lot of hype about the metaverse land in the Web3 realm.

That's why in this post, we're going to delve into 12 meta-cosmic lands that we can buy and eventually invest in.

The lands of the metaverse are similar to those of the real world, except that they are virtual. What we do on our physical land can also be replicated on virtual land in a number of ways. Do we want to build a store, or do we want to host an event? We can do whatever we want in this land.

The land is typically divided into plots and the supply is limited through unchangeable smart contracts on the blockchain. Therefore, more land cannot be created out of thin air. That's what it's worth: digital scarcity. They can also be tracked through the blockchain, so we don't have to worry about waking up one day and realizing our land is gone or something.

Meta-cosmic land use cases

Before going any further, we should first look at the importance of metacosmic lands because, as my friend says, "I need to know the value of what I pay for."

Depending on the meta-universe, we can do different things with our meta-universe. Here are some examples of metacosmic lands that can be used:

Build our house

What could be better than owning an apartment? We could decide to sublet our home to Airbnb and make some money from it. In fact, there are metaverse real estate agents that can help us do just that.

Put our business on it

If we are a business/brand owner, we can actually put our goods or products in a metaverse store. Brands like Samsung and Forever 21 have their own stores on the metaverse. This not only helps marketing, but also sales.

Build an Art gallery

If we are a digital artist and want to do an exhibition for our art and the NFT, we can get a piece of land in the meta-universe and build an art gallery. People can shop around and decide whether to buy or not.

We can also organize activities or parties on the land. For example, Metauniverse fashion Week begins Decentraland and features top fashion brands such as Estee Lauder and Forever 21.

These are just some of the things we can choose to do with the metaverse. The opportunities are endless.

Top metaverse

Here are the lands of the first 12 metauniverses.

Decentraland

Decentraland is a decentralized game. It is basically a DAO(decentralized autonomous organization) where token holders manage the game. I like to call it the OG of the Metacomes, it was the first metacomes platform/marketplace. We can buy or sell land on Decentraland. The plots highlighted in blue are plots for sale, and as we wander around them, we see how much they cost, who is selling it, and how big the land is.

Land Decentraland can be purchased with MANA, which is the original token of Decentraland. The token can be purchased from any decentralized and centralized exchange.

The most affordable, or smallest, plots on Decentraland cost around ETH 3.46, or nearly $11,000.

Somnium

It's also an open social VR world where we can play games and buy digital land, houses or buildings. Somnium cubes are the game's currency, called CUBES for short, and can be used to buy land, or the user can buy land using Ethereum. It is built on the Ethereum blockchain, and NFT can be built, purchased, or imported into the game.

Users can purchase a piece of land in the Somnium space through Opensea Marketplace. The size of the lot or the distance from a landmark determines the value of the land.

You can get a piece of land here for as little as 1.29 ETH, 1.3 ETH or even 1.4 ETH, which is about $2000, and you need to connect the Metamask wallet to make the purchase.

Users can also do whatever they want with their land, and finally, we can rent the land in the Somnium space from other users.

Voxels

Voxels, formerly known as Cryptovoxels, is one of the famous metaverse platforms built on the Ethereum blockchain network. In this meta-universe there are real life infrastructure such as roads, buildings, etc. We can buy lots in Voxels and build them on our own land or space. Users can also invite their friends over and do what they want on their own land.

It is now possible to obtain a piece of land on Cryptovoxels for around 0.5 ETH.

Sandbox

The Sandbox is one of the largest and most famous metauniverses. This is a 3D gaming platform, also developed on the Ethereum blockchain, where users can create game characters and also buy virtual land. It's a subsidiary of Animoca Brands, which has a lot of users. By becoming a landowner, users can host events and invite their friends to the Sandbox metaverse. The original token in this meta-universe is called SAND, and users can use it to make transactions on the Sandbox, including land purchases. The holder of this token can also participate in the governance of this metaverse. They can vote on important decisions on the platform.

Snoop Dogg is one of many celebrities who have thrown their support behind the Sandbox. He built a mansion on his land, and he organizes concerts and events on the Sandbox.

The cheapest is around ETH 1.30, or around US $2,049 at the time of writing.

A lot next to Snoop Dogg sells for more than $1 million.

Big Time

Big Time was co-founded by the founders of Decentraland, Fortnite, Call of Duty and the War of Warcraft. Big Time seems to have a big team. It's a time travel game, so why buy land when we're going to be traveling through time and space? The land would be useless, and that's what makes Big Time so interesting, where you have a time machine, and then you develop our space in that machine.

The time machine is a portal that allows us to have our own universes and use SPACE to modify them into our ideal universe. So in the Big Time, "land" will be called space. Each space is unique and limited.

We can buy this virtual property and decorate it or customize it to our liking. You can also put your collection in the space, or have people come over to look at it.

Buying space at Big Time requires a Big Time token, which cannot be purchased but can be earned by the player of the game. So we need to play games to earn tokens. If we are on the outside looking in and also want to invest in Big Time, we could try to buy Space NFT.

Otherside

Otherside Metaverse was developed by Yuga Labs, the same team behind Bored Ape Yacht Club. Because their other projects have been successful, they have proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that this new project will be successful, too. Maybe because they have a lot of money.

Yuga Labs owns BAYC, MAYC, CryptoPunk, Kennel Club, Meebits and Otherside land-Otherdeeds, among others.

The land in the Otherside metauniverse is called the Otherdeeds, and in order to gain access, we must first purchase the OtherdeedNFT in a market (such as OpenSea).

The secondary market for Otherdeeds is active on OpenSea.

Upland

Upland Metauniverse is a real estate game built on the EOS blockchain where players can explore, trade assets, and interact with other players.

Properties on Upland map to the real world, which is a really cool feature. The city names in Upland are our cities in the real world. You can actually think of it as a parallel metaverse.

In order to buy property on Upland, one must have enough UPX tokens. This is a token used in the Upland gaming ecosystem.

Upland allows users to buy land in their favourite cities.

Pixelynx

Often referred to as a musical metaverse, Pixelynx is an exciting metaverse that aims to bring music, blockchain, and gaming together. In my opinion, this is actually a big win for the music industry.

Artists can create a community, release music, and interact with their fans. In addition, fans will be able to communicate and commune with the artists in this meta-universe.

Artists can also play concerts at Pyxelynx for millions of people.

Star Atlas

Star Atlas is a meta-universe game set in the year 2620. Since the concept of the game is to travel around the planets, the spaceship is the primary NFT asset.

This metaverse is built on the Solana blockchain, which has two tokens. The first is the ATLAS token, which is its in-game currency that can be used to trade on the market. The second is POLIS token, which is a governance token.

Land can be purchased on the primary market through auctions or on the secondary market from landowners who want to sell their land.

Treeverse

This meta-universe game is browser-based. Founders Plot NFT gives us access to private homes in this meta-universe. If we own a private home, we can customize it to suit our tastes, invite friends over and display artwork.

Two different ERC-20 tokens are used in the Treeverse metaverse: the SEED token and the ROOT token. SEED tokens can be used to purchase in-game items or to rent land. ROOT tokens are used to vote on important decisions in the Treeverse.

Treeverse

Illuvium

Illuvium is a very interesting meta-universe game where players fight for ETH. In this 3D virtual world, players can explore and capture beasts called Illuvials. These Illuvials can be traded as NFT's. They can use captured Illuvials to fight other players for ETH.

Illuvium allows users to own multiple pieces of land and lease their own land.

There are different types of land on Illuvium.

Illuvium has a game token -- ILV -- that can be used as both an in-game token and a governance token.

Bloktopia

The Blocktopia metaverse is a decentralized VR skyscraper with a total of 21 floors to commemorate a maximum supply of 21 million bitcoins.

Bloktopia metaverse is used for education, income, gaming, creativity, and everything else we can think of. Its native token, called BLOK, is an ERC 20 token built on the Polygon network. Tokens need to be traded in the metaverse. If you want to buy land or buy goods and services in the metaverse, you need this token.

At the moment, we can only buy land on the first few floors of Blocktopia. More floors will be released.

Metaverse Real Estate Agent

We could decide to lease the land instead of buying it outright. But for those who want to host a party or an art show but can't afford to buy land, Metaverse real estate agencies such as Metaverse Group or Landworks can be used. These real estate agents let us rent land in the meta-universe for a day, a week or for any length of time, depending on the user's choice.

conclusion

Taken together, different factors may affect the price of these metacomverse lands. For example, land near landmarks may be more expensive, or in popular areas such as fashion districts, land will also become more expensive.

But choosing to buy next to someone famous or popular might not be such a good decision, because what if that person moves away? Things may not go our way.

Hopefully this article has given you some insight into the top metacomes that exist today. This is still uncharted territory because it's an early technology. As a result, it is very volatile and the price goes up and down a lot.
