On August 13, NFT marketplace Rarible announced the launch of a set of open source tools (called the "Rarible Protocol") to greatly simplify the process of bringing NFT projects and ideas to life.
Creating an NFT project from scratch isn't easy -- the Rarible.com team knows that. Getting to where we are today took numerous iterations and setbacks, as well as perseverance to overcome market challenges such as guiding supply and demand.
Gone are the days when a project required building an entire NFT store or marketplace from scratch. With Rarible Protocol, developers and teams can focus on what they do best, while also leveraging an interoperable project ecosystem to drive innovation as the market evolves.
The Rarible Protocol is a set of smart contracts that can be deployed to various blockchains and is also an open source indexer. Projects can use these tools to build consumer-facing applications, and smart contract developers can build functionality into protocols that benefit the overall project ecosystem.

Rarible Protocol stack
1. Decentralized transaction platform with cost sharing function
At its core, Rarible Protocol is a decentralized trading platform. One of the most powerful features of the protocol is its ability to share costs during the exchange process, which allows for interesting use cases such as co-creation of NFT, monetization of applications built on top of the protocol, and even features used in cost-sharing applications.
2. Share order books and liquidity
Applications built on the Rarible Protocol have shared order books. The practical implication of this is that when the NFT is put up for sale, it will be put up for sale in all applications based on that agreement (as well as when bidding). The effect is powerful: As more teams build on top of the protocol, every project benefits.
3. Single (ERC721) or version (ERC1155) NFT "fool type" casting
This feature makes it easy for anyone, regardless of their crypto knowledge, to create an NFT without paying transaction fees. Instead, when the NFT is sold, the GAS costs associated with casting are paid to the buyer -- opening up NFT casting to mainstream audiences (e.g., Twitch streams, tweets, TikTok videos, all with zero cryptocurrency fees).
4. Royalty rate
Rarible Protocol implements royalty standards for protocol-cast NFT as well as externally cast NFT. This allows NFT sold on a licensed application to be subject to creator and platform royalties regardless of provenance (currently, if an NFT is cast on SuperRare and sold on OpenSea, royalties are not passed back to the original creator, This is a huge barrier to creating an interoperable NFT ecosystem).
Open source indexers
The Rarible Protocol indexer is a fully open source data store for developers. It enables them to index the NFT and has access to information including metadata, orders, activities, and rankings or sorting for ranking purposes. Notably, Rarible Protocol is the first open source indexer Protocol available to developers.
Upcoming features of the agreement roadmap
Rarible Protocol is currently deployed on Ethereum and will soon be available on Flow and Polygon. Looking ahead, we want to prioritize inputs from our ecosystem, including:
· Improved documentation
· Complete a sdk&d&p;
· Integration with statutory payment solutions
· Provide search API
· Transfer to the on-chain order book.
Currently, there are 20 different projects building applications on top of this protocol, including Reaction$, CocoNFT, DAOhaus, MintGate, Ownfy, Cyber, Footium, NFP, Vertex, Mintdrop, Zerion, Genies, Decentraland, Rarepr Ess and BlockEx. Developers can build many other applications, including:
1. Customizable NFT stores
From large projects like Rarible.com, to smaller options for creators, the agreement makes it easy to develop and customize NFT storefronts.
2. NFT casting applications
Because of the shared order book, applications on the protocol can also choose to cast NFT and let other applications handle the sale and distribution of these NFT's. This removes some of the challenges associated with guiding requirements and should significantly reduce the time to market for ideas.
3. Browse/discover/manage
There are various applications that might want to use this protocol to browse/discover and manage NFT, including wallets or DAO frameworks or Multisigs.
4. Monetization of functions
With the Rarible protocol, developers can create innovative features and integrate applications on top of the protocol to be tested, validated, and monetized through cost splitting.
5. Data analysis tools
Easily create analytical solutions for NFT pricing, trading, and scarcity.
As of today, the Rarible.com marketplace has successfully completed its migration to the Rarible protocol.
While Rarible.com and the Rarible protocol remain two separate entities, both have a core mission of building a community-driven decentralized network to manage protocol parameters. This will be achieved through the Rarible DAO made up of valuable members of the community, from developers to thought leaders who have ownership and decision-making rights.
Rarible DAO provides support for projects based on the protocol in two main ways:
1. Weekly allocation of approximately $40,000 in RARI tokens (currently valued at approximately $500,000), at the discretion of the protocol based app, is scaled up twice in proportion to the weekly sales generated by its app.
2. Funding of up to $100,000 for new NFT projects, ideas, and features for developers based on this agreement. The funds were allocated by approving proposals submitted to the Rarible DAO and through a DAo-sponsored hackathon.
