Polygon announced on June 29 that it has launched scalable, data-usability centric Blockchain Avail, designed to provide scaling solutions for stand-alone, side-chain, and off-chain applications. Avail separated the transaction execution and validity from the consensus layer, so that the consensus was only responsible for a) sorting the transaction and b) ensuring its data availability.
The development of Avail is based on the KZG consensus and has three main features:
1. Data redundancy makes it difficult for block producers to hide any part of the block.
2. Fraud proof can ensure correct code erasure.
3. Vector Commitments, which allow full nodes to include transactions to light nodes with concise proofs.
The goal of Avail is to allow independent chains or side chains with arbitrary execution environments to conduct validator security without the need to create and manage their own set of validators by ensuring the availability of transaction data; A second layer solution, such as Validiums, provides a higher scalability throughput by using Avail as the off-chain data availability layer.
Polygon says Avail is currently in development and has launched a test network.
